Sushi Bella

Recently, my boyfriend and I were in the Kitsilano neighbourhood and opted to have our lunch at Sushi Bella. This Japanese restaurant is Korean-owned, which is evident by the Korean inspired dishes that appear here and there in the menu.

First up, the Bella Tower ($12) consisting of fresh salmon, tuna tartar, avocado, crab mix, shitake, wasabi mayo and pesto. Both my boyfriend and I thought this was underwhelming despite the expensive price tag and "fancy" presentation. I wouldn't recommend ordering this.

Next, we had the Ocean Dream Roll ($8). This had negitoro and avocado inside, topped with tuna, avocado and chili mayo sauce. I thought the negitoro went well with the avocado and the mayo sauce added a little something more to the roll.

The Beef Donburi ($8) was the last thing that we ordered. This dish is essentially a rice bowl that comes with beef cooked with egg and sweet onion soy sauce and it would have been perfect if the beef wasn't so incredibly salty. The rice bowl also came with miso soup.

Overall, our meal wasn't the best but I would definitely want to return to try their other specialty rolls if we are ever in the neighbourhood again. The rolls at Sushi Bella are different in that they incorporate a lot of ingredients that you don't normally see at other Japanese restaurants, such as beets, shitake mushroom and bacon, among other things.
