Bob Likes Thai Food

Other than pad thai, Thai cuisine is pretty much uncharted territory to me. So after skimming through the Thai restaurants on Urbanspoon, my boyfriend and I decided to make our way to Bob Likes Thai Food on Main St for dinner one night.

The first thing we ordered was Tom Yum Koong, which is a soup consisting of lemon grass, lime leaf, fish sauce, prawns and mushrooms. I found this to be very pungent and almost tart in taste. Since this had such a strong flavor, I was glad we only went with the small to share between the two of us.

I decided to go with the Pad Thai, which was my favorite of the meal. The fried rice noodles were cooked to a perfect bite and tossed with prawns, tofu, peanuts, egg, bean sprouts and chives. In terms of taste, it was initially sweet followed by a tangy flavour from the tamarind. Yum!

The Roasted Duck Red Curry was the last dish ordered by my boyfriend. According to the menu, it is a "coconut milk based red curry with roasted duck, basil, lychee, tomato, pineapple and bamboo shoot". The curry was very creamy and had a pleasantly subtle heat to it. I wasn't a big fan of the lychee in this dish but overall, I enjoyed the curry. This was my first time trying red curry and I certainly wouldn't mind ordering it again.

Overall, the meal left me feeling stuffed and pretty satisfied. Considering that I am not very familiar with Thai cuisine, I am looking forward to returning to try the other dishes here.
