First, we ordered the Dragon Roll (8.95) and Beef Tataki Roll (6.95). Unlike most places, the dragon roll here had the avocado inside with the unagi on top and because there was so little avocado, the taste of the unagi predominated. As a side note, the unagi was served cold (like fresh out of the fridge), which could be a turn off for some people. As for the beef tataki roll, the beef was essentially fully cooked meat despite its name but both my boyfriend and I really liked the smokey charred flavour.
Next, the Volcano Sushi Pizza ($8.95). This looks good right? However, with four pieces for the price of almost nine bucks, this is a straight up rip off. I did enjoy the slightly fried rice but the tuna sashimi was basically tasteless mush. Ragrets (who can identify this reference? Haaa).
Finally, I've never tried deep fried california rolls before so I decided to take the plunge with the Crazy Boy Roll ($4.95). This was simple but tasted pretty good for what it was.
The presentation of food is visually pleasing and the rolls are a tad different from the usual combination of flavours and ingredients. In terms of the ambiance, the vibe of the restaurant is pretty chill while the service is attentive. After checking out the food pics on their Urbanspoon page, who wouldn't add Sushi Loku to their list of Japanese places to try?
