Lao Shan Dong

Lao Shan Dong is a Taiwanese restaurant that is known for its beef noodle soup. It also happens to be the sister restaurant of the ever so popular The One Restaurant (review here).

First on the table was the Boiled Pork and Vegetable Dumplings. We ordered a small for $5, which came with ten pieces. I thought these were decent enough but nothing special.

Next up was the Braised Beef Flank with Noodle in Soup for $8.75 for a large. The soup was savory and had a prominent flavor from the pickled vegetables. I liked that the noodles were thicker here but as the meal progressed, the noodles became increasingly more soft because it was in the hot soup. The pieces of beef flank were on the lean side so they were a bit dry but still flavorsome and tender.

Last was the Braised Beef Flank Dry Noodle, which was the same price as the noodle in soup. This ended up being my favorite of the night. The sauce was very tasty and appetizing while the noodles were not as soft and thus better than they were in the noodle soup.

Based on this visit, I would have to recommend the dry noodle over the noodle soup because the noodle soup is lacking in flavor when compared to the dry noodle version. All in all, Lao Shan Dong is a good spot for a quick and hearty bowl of Taiwanese noodles.
